Rita and Eva Trentham, two former users of Monument Road baths talk about learning to swim.
The interviews were conducted a few years ago, since then Eva has passed away, but thanks to TNT and the Ladywood History Group her memories live on.
Eva talks about how her school friend at St John’s School, Lizzie Dipple,was saved from drowning by her teacher, Miss Baggs and how she was taught to swim with help of a long pole with a hoop
on it! Rita talks about her hand knitted woolly costume that weighed her down in the water.
